Isaiah 12 Devotional: A reflection on the Hard Patches That Lead Us Back to God

When reading this morning, Isaiah 12 got me!! It’s only 6 verses, and I can’t choose just one that stood out to me today because they are all so meaningful.
Recently I’ve been going through things back to back to back…and I instantly thought to myself, “Back in the day I would’ve thought I did something wrong.”
But then Job came to mind…and I was like, “Naaaah…maybe my faith is just being tested.”
Then one day last week I woke up and it felt like everything was going wrong. So I went outside to get some fresh air and just think. As I was mowing and STRUGGLING because the grass was damp and thick in some areas, I kept asking the Lord to help me just push through.

Usually I feel relief right then and there when talking to Him…but I didn’t this time. Instead, all the thoughts of always trying to do everything on my own and all the worries I had been carrying just came over me. I started crying and repenting.
Here’s the thing, y’all…
God is our Father. And just like a good father, sometimes He allows hard moments in our lives to correct us, grow us, and draw us back to Him.
But He doesn’t hold onto His anger.
He loves us. And sometimes those hard seasons help us lay down the things we were never meant to carry on our own.
Has anyone else felt like they’ve been “mowing through thick grass” lately?
Maybe all we need to do is take a step back…slow down for a moment…and remember we were never meant to carry everything on our own.
Sometimes it’s the hard patches that lead us back to God, reminding us where our strength really comes from. 💕
