At the end of chapter 2 the spies made it back to Joshua and told him the information that they had received from Rahab. Which was the Lord has handed over the entire land to them and that everyone in that land (Jericho) were also in a panic because of them.
🧭 Israel at the Jordan:
So, Joshua and all the Israelites set out to cross the Jordan in chapter 3....which just so happened to be during flood stage!!
Once near the Jordan they waited 3 days. This is significant for several reasons....
It gave time to Spiritually prepare.
3 is a Number of Completion!! We all Know A LOT can happen in 3 Days!!
The Jordan also represents a Boundary between Old and New (Jesus was also Later baptized there!!!)
Renewal 🩷
It also gave time for Joshua and the officers to get their final orders out and get the massive population organized and prepared.
Which leads us to....
📜 Specific Instructions Given Before Crossing:
Ch 3..
Follow the ark of the covenant (GOD)
Keep a distance so you can see the way to go, for you haven't traveled this was before (Have Patience and Pay Attention)
Consecrate yourselves because the Lord will do wonders among you (Set yourself apart from the world)
Have priest carry the ark of the covenant (a Visible symbol/God's Dwelling place) before the people.
Choose 12 men, 1 from Each tribe (Unity)
Once their feet reach the edge of the water....have them Stand in the Jordan (FAITH)
Ch 4...
Choose 12 men gets mentioned AGAIN... (Unity)
Each of them takes a stone from the Jordan where the priests were standing to take back up to camp, and Joshua set up 12 different stones in the middle of the Jordan where the priests were standing. (Proof and Remembrance)
🌊 The Miracle of Dry Ground (ch 3) :
On the Fourth day they set out cross the Jordan. The priest went with the ark of the covenant before the people, and once their feet touched the edge of the water the flow downstream stopped, and the people were able to cross the Jordan on Dry ground until the entire nation was on the other side! (Roughly around 2-3 million people 😲)

After the whole nation had crossed Joshua commanded the Priest to come up out of the Jordan, and just as soon as they did the waters returned right back to flood stage as before!
🪨 The Power of Remembrance: 12 Stones:
Chapter 4 just basically tells us about the Crossing and the taking and setting of the stones...
It ends in telling us on the tenth day of the first of the month the Israelites Camped up in Gilgal (on the eastern limits of Jericho). Joshua set up the 12 stones they had taken from the River and said " In the future when your children ask 'What is the meaning of these stones?' You should tell them 'Israel crossed the Jordan on dry ground.' Joshua 4: 23-24 "For the Lord Your God dried up the water on the Jordan before you until you had crossed over, just as the Lord your God did to the Red Sea, which he dried up before us until we had crossed over. This is so that all the peoples of the earth may KNOW that the Lord's hand is Strong, and so that you may Always Fear the Lord your God."

Gilgal where the stones were laid symbolizes remembrance and renewal.
My Take away:
Let God Go Before you and Lead the Way!! (For we do not know the way!)
Be Patient...
Set yourself apart from the ways of the world...
Stay Unified with other believers in Christ...
and Most importantly...
Remember ALL He has Done and brought you through!
Step out in Faith...
Because God is Not necessarily going to "Dry" up our situation before we even take the first step to walk through it!
Stepping out in Faith is Obedience
in Response to the Lord's Word!!
So, Take action on Your Faith 🩷

Our God Can and Will Part Seas and Dry up Rivers for us, but you have to be Willing to actually take the first step in Faith and Walk across!!!
📖 Reflection Guide: “Crossing Your Jordan”
Crossing Your Jordan: A 5-Step Faith Reflection
God didn’t part the Jordan until the priests stepped in. What might He be waiting for you to step into?
Reflection:
Let God go before you. What does it look like to follow His lead in your current season?
Be patient. Where is God asking you to wait and trust?
Set yourself apart. How can you consecrate your heart this week?
Stay unified. Who are you walking with in faith—and how can you support each other?
Step out in faith. What’s one bold action you can take today?
Lord, help me trust You at the edge of my Jordan. Give me courage to step out, patience to wait, and faith to follow wherever You lead. Amen.
