Joshua 15 might look boring at first as it's just a bunch of land and boundaries. But y’all… what seems pointless to us now was deeply important to them back then. These were the specific details of God’s promises! The details that defined inheritance, protection, and purpose.
What seems Pointless to us may be Important to someone else!

So please stick around till the Takeaway! I Promise there's a Message!!

The Boundaries Weren’t Random:

The chapter starts out listing boundaries "Around" the people of Judah.

  • South: toward the wilderness and the border of Edom

  • East: The Dead Sea

  • West: The Mediterranean Sea

  • North: up toward Jerusalem and beyond

*Boundaries are a way to Define Ownership, and within these boundaries are God's Promise!!!

map Gods Promises

Caleb’s Bold Faith at 85:

Then in accordance with the Lord's command Joshua gave Caleb his portion in the mountains. Caleb then drove out Three groups of Anakites....Mind you these are Giants and Caleb is 85!!!

From there Caleb marched against the people living in Debir, and he said to his people "I will give my daughter Aksah in marriage to the man who attacks and captures Debir."

Othniel.....Caleb's nephew ended up being the one who took it. (Crazy to think about nowadays, but back then it was normal to marry cousins)

So, Caleb gave his daughter Aksah to Othniel in Marriage, and they were also given the very Dry land in Negev.

Aksah’s Ask: Don’t Be Afraid to Request More:

Since it was standard for husbands to handle formal requests, Aksah urged Othniel to ask her father for a field....as a roundabout way of letting him know their land is dry, and they needed land with water.

Othniel must have taken his time in asking because it went right on to say Aksah went to her father herself and straight up asked him for springs of water since their land is dry. Caleb agreed and gave her the upper and lower springs!

What a Loving and Generous Father!! This reflects our Heavenly Father! 💕

The chapter ends with a whole long list of towns given to Judah. Over 100 of them grouped by region!

The final verse notes that Judah could not drive out the Jebusites living in Jerusalem at that time. Which becomes a long-term issue Israel will face later.

My Takeaway:

God is intentional with His Promises to us. He doesn't just hand us blessings. He places Boundaries around them to define them, protect them, and help us flourish within them.

His boundaries aren’t limitations; they’re safety, clarity, and order.

Stepping into what God has "Promised" us requires Bold and Active Faith!

(Like Caleb, who claimed his mountain at 85, and Aksah, who asked for springs when her land was dry.)

Don't Settle!!

Ask for what you Need to thrive!

Stay Obedient!

And Just Always Remember: God protects our promise with boundaries, calls us to walk into it with bold faith, and welcomes us to ask for the blessings we need to flourish. Obedience keeps us aligned, and courage helps us step into everything He has prepared.

Ask yourself today:

Are you settling for less than what God promised you?

What giant is standing between you and your inheritance?

What blessing do you need to ask your Father for so you can flourish?
